EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

Kevyn Monier, MSW, LMSW, CBT-C, EMDR-TR, at Heart and Mind Healing Therapeutic Services utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help individuals across Michigan heal from trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and distressing life experiences through secure telehealth sessions. EMDR is an evidence-based treatment that follows a structured, eight-phase approach, beginning with history taking and preparation, where clients develop grounding and coping skills to support emotional stability. Treatment focuses on identifying specific memories along with associated negative beliefs, emotions, and body sensations, followed by desensitization using bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements or tapping) to help the brain reprocess and reduce the emotional intensity of these experiences. The process continues with strengthening positive beliefs, addressing residual physical tension, and ensuring clients feel grounded at the end of each session. Because trauma healing is gradual, EMDR therapy is conducted over multiple sessions, allowing for safe and effective integration of difficult experiences. Over time, this approach supports reduced emotional distress, improved self-perception, and lasting psychological healing.
