CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia)

Kevyn Monier, MSW, LMSW, CBT-C, at Heart and Mind Healing Therapeutic Services utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) to treat sleep difficulties by identifying and modifying the thoughts and behaviors that interfere with healthy sleep. Treatment begins with tracking sleep patterns and identifying unhelpful beliefs (e.g.,“I’ll never be able to function if I don’t sleep”), followed by cognitive restructuring to develop more balanced and realistic perspectives. Behavioral interventions such as stimulus control and sleep restriction are used to strengthen the natural sleep-wake cycle. Clients are also guided in developing relaxation strategies and consistent nighttime routines to reduce arousal. In alignment with CBT-I’s structured and goal-oriented approach, clients engage in between-session practice to reinforce progress. Over time, this evidence-based approach supports improved sleep quality and long-term relief from insomnia.
